Lying to the north west of the vast Aquitaine region and neighbouring the Dordogne, rural Limousin is made up of three départements: the Corrèze, the Creuse and Haute-Vienne. With an average of just 43 people per square kilometre it's become a popular choice with anglophones seeking a quiet life; most of the activity is centred around the mediaeval capital, Limoges.
Much of the Massif Central falls in Limousin and its gorges and lakes provide for many outdoor activities: fishing, white water sports, horse riding and hiking.
AngloINFO Limousin launched 1 July 2006 with franchisees Martin and Florence Swanson. Florence, from Lyon, France, spent two years studying International Trade before setting off to improve her knowledge of foreign languages, living in Barcelona, Spain and then Manchester, England. Back in Lyon, she worked for the sales departments of international companies before moving to Cape Town in 2000 where she taught French and did translation work. She left Cape Town for the French Riviera in 2001 and worked for wimba.com in Sophia Antipolis and then as an estate agent until moving to Aquitaine. She speaks fluent French, English and Spanish.
Martin is from Cape Town, South Africa. He read Economics at the University of Cape Town and then pursued postgraduate studies in property at the University of Stellenbosch. He was manager of the retail property department at a leading national property company before he launched his own consultancy. His consultancy worked with the property departments of national chain stores to source, develop and dispose of retail commercial property. He developed and launched an Internet site dedicated to the retail property industry in 2000. He left Cape Town for the French Riviera in 2001 where he worked for Infocandy.com in Sophia Antipolis.
They both enjoy the outdoors having both lived in Cape Town and now live in Belin Beliet in the Gironde, which is in the centre of the Gascogne and Landes Natural Park. They are often to be found cycling on the many cycle tracks that run through the forest near their home.
