AngloINFO Berlin is Germany's first AngloINFO region. One of the sixteen Federal States of Germany, Berlin became the capital in 1990 following the reunification of the east and west and since this date has become an increasingly popular destination for visitors. The city of Berlin lies on two rivers, the Spree running from east to west and the Havel which runs from the old town of Spandau in the north to the nautical district of Wannsee in the south west. Over two-thirds of Berlin is made up of lakes, forests and parks.
The unique history of Berlin means that it is a multi-cultural and multi ethnic city, famous for its many historical sites. The most well known being the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall, both symbols of the cold war division.
One of the main tourist attractions is Checkpoint Charlie. The remains of the crossing point include the original guard's house and some remnants of the wall. The Checkpoint Charlie Museum provides insight into individual escapes from East Berlin. Other areas of interest include Potzdamer Platz, now an ultra-modern, huge entertainment centre built on the former "No-Mans Land", and the Reichstag Parliament Building.
Acting Manager of AngloINFO Berlin is Fiona Aris. Fiona worked for many years in magazine publishing before moving abroad to live in Norway, Greece and Italy. On her return to the UK she worked in media recruitment and in business teaching before joining AngloINFO as Business Development Director. She has two teenage sons, James and Nick and spends much of her spare time trying to persuade them to get up and do some work or transporting them to and from rugby matches!
AngloINFO Berlin provides those living in the area - or planning a move there - all the features and benefits to which AngloINFO's users elsewhere in France, Spain, Cyprus, Belgium, Portugal, Holland, Italy, Singapore and Switzerland are accustomed.
